Community Iftar Report (Friday, August 19)

Alhamdulillah the Ramadan community Iftar dinner hosted by Tarbiyah School yesterday (Friday, August 19) was an overwhelming success. We are humbled by the attendance of about 150 community members in addition to the children who made the event lively and family oriented. Given the fact that it was a Friday, and a heavily raining evening, followed by concern for timely departure for Isha and taraweeh, the community chose to come and join us at Tarbiyah campus, it speaks volumes and greatly inspires us in the endeavor of establishing an ideal Islamic School in this country that we envision to become a role model for Islamic Schools in the area and in the United States.
Community members started to arrive at about 7:00 pm due to heavy rain in the afternoon. Dr. Amna Latif, Tarbiyah School’s Director was standing under an umbrella greeting all the guests outside. Students, faculty, parents, and community members are key stakeholders of Tarbiyah and this was indicative of our core values.
Tarbiyah School Tour was on display on the large screen while brothers and sisters were settling down. The program started around 7:20 pm after having a full house attendance at the seminar hall of Tarbiyah campus.
Sheikh Muhammad began with a brief introduction and recitation of the Quran followed by a certificate hand over by Br Khalil to the children who completed the computer programming course at Tarbiyah School conducted by Dr. Naveed Baqir.
Tarbiyah School’s president Sr Mariam Aissaoui gave a welcome message to all and briefly spoke about what Tarbiyah School is, what the school offers and stands for, she talked about the evening classes that will be introduced at Tarbiyah in October, and also announced the exciting news of Eid Festival with Cam Ali that will be hosted on a 4 acre Tarbiyah campus on Eid Day inshAllah.
Dr. Amna Latif gave a brief overview of the curriculum and the textbooks that the curriculum will follow for English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, talked about the National Standardized Testing based on which the students will be evaluated, and informed about the opportunity of Professional Development for the teachers. Right after her short speech, it was time to break the fast. A kindergarten student of Tarbiyah School, Bassam, called the beautiful Adhan and everyone broke their fast with the dates, juice and water.
Salaat arrangement was made in the main hall of the school building due to the wet ground outside, so everyone joined at the congregation inside the school for Maghrib salaat and after the salaat, returned to the seminar hall for dinner. During the dinner, Sheikh Yahyah from Central Mosque in Chester gave a short lecture on Ramadan and Tarbiyah in our lives. The dinner was quick and at 9:00 pm everyone departed for Isha and taraweeh.
We are very much thankful to Tarbiyah families for sponsoring the iftar dinner. May Allah reward them for their generous contribution and support that made this event possible. Also special thanks go to the brothers and sisters who volunteered during the event with organizing, setting up, serving, and cleaning. May Allah reward them all ameen.
Once again we would like to say Jazakumullahu Khairan to all who attended. May Allah accept from you and from us during this blessed month of Ramadan ameen.

Homeless Shelter Follow Up

At the request of homeless shelter, we had to postpone the homeless shelter last week. Kathy Graham visited Tarbiyah School on Monday-August 8 to talk to the children about homelessness, its broader context, and our role in society. She told children about the efforts of her organization and how young children can help our local community.

Please see the list of items that homeless shelters need. Please feel free in donating any amount of these items by Monday, August 15 so that we can make bags for the homeless people when we go for our field visit InshAllah. Sort your closets and please donate clothes (baby, child, youth, or adult size) that are in an acceptable condition and you would like to give away, please wash them, iron them and fold them up nicely so we can take those with us as well for our visit. There will be a box in the school where you may drop the clothes InshAllah tomorrow.

The visit date and schedule of homeless shelter will be announced as soon as we get confirmation  inshAllah.
JazakAllah Khair and may Allah SWT help us in helping others ameen and in giving us the wisdom to make our children among those who will always be ready to give for the sake of Allah SWT.

Ramadan Kareem - Virtual Tour of Tarbiyah School

Ramadan Kareem - كل عام و انتم بخير

Alhamdulillah- Tarbiyah Open House on Friday (July 29, 2011) was a big success. A full house attendance by community members and interested parents was encouraging and motivating. The school building looked amazing after the tremendous amount of hard work from parents, teachers, and volunteers. May Allah reward them with unbounded khair for the dedication they showed towards making Tarbiyah a reality. This level of dedication and sincerity is what makes Tarbiyah unique as an independent educational organization.

Special thanks go to Brothers Abobaker, Redouane, Azhar, Maher, Arij, Arqum, Asim, Ahmad, Mused, Muhammad, Farhan, Shahnawaz, Ali, Naveed, Larry and Tripp for their time, efforts and generous donations - physical, intellectual and monetary. Even more appreciation is in order for the countless hours, energy, enthusiasm and generous donations from sisters Eglal, Fatima, Rehana, Raheela, Uzma, Emane, Ramsha, Fehmida, Meryem, Aliya, Nafeesa, Swaiba, Azza, Shamim, Shamaila, Nazia, Hafsa, Aisha, Nida, Suad, Salsabila, Sadia, Mariam, Amna, Sarah and Alena. Thanks to their families as well for enduring long hours while these brothers and sisters spent days and nights in designing the school. There are many others who have chosen to remain anonymous and we owe a great deal of gratitude to them.

Through this open house event, interested parents and the community members had the chance to explore Tarbiyah inside out. They visited the classrooms, facilities, asked questions to faculty and board members. They also had the opportunity to learn more about Tarbiyah project during the presentation by our Principal and Board of Directors. Parents expressed special regards for this community effort where transparency of planning, budgeting and team effort was on display. For your convenience, we have put together the presentation, and an online open house at: http://openhouse1.tarbiyahschool.org/
